Engin KARAHAN is an associate professor of science education at Middle East Technical University. After receiving his bachelor's degree from Hacettepe University's Science Education Department, he went on to the University of Minnesota in the United States to pursue his master's and doctorate degrees in STEM education. During his graduate studies, he worked as a researcher at the STEM Education Center at the University of Minnesota. He worked on NASA and NSF-funded projects dealing with socioscientific issues, culturally-relevant climate change education, and educational technologies during this time. His dissertation focused on developing and evaluating professional development programs for science teachers. He has been teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses on STEM education, socioscientific issues, and qualitative methodologies. STEM education, socioscientific issues, learning technologies, and teacher/student agency are among his research interests.
