Elif Kaymaz is a Visiting Post-Doctoral Researcher part of the Manchester Architecture Research Group (MARG) at the University of Manchester, working on her project "Frontiers of Chromite: Survey, Extraction, and Territorial Infrastructure in the Late Ottoman Empire (1848-1918)" She earned her PhD in Architectural History from Middle East Technical University (METU), where she completed her dissertation "Architectures of Anticipation: The Making of Wartime Space in Turkey, 1935–1945." Her research has explored wartime urbanism and defense geographies, with a focus on how the anticipation of global conflict reshaped Turkey’s territorial, urban, and bodily environments. She is a Research Assistant in the METU Department of Architecture, a Publishing Assistant for the Journal of the Faculty of Architecture. She holds degrees in City and Regional Planning and Architectural History, with exchange experience at KU Leuven and Politecnico di Milano. She has collaborated with institutions including MATPUM, GABAM, the Suna Kıraç Archives, SAVVY Contemporary, SALT, Istanbul Research Institute, Academy Schloss Solitude, and was a doctoral researcher in the 2-year TÜBİTAK-funded project Spatial Manifestations of Ceremonial Legitimization in Istanbul and Ankara (1908–1946). Her collaborative work has appeared in venues such as Turkish Studies, Goethe-Institut Publications, and Mediapolis, and she has presented and hosted sessions at international conferences, including SAH, EAHN, SUDHT, AHRA, and NECS. She works on spatial histories of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries in the Ottoman Empire and Turkey.
