Alper Alioğlu (Sajjad Baghaee) is
a Senior Researcher with the Communication Networks Research Group at
Middle East Technical University, Türkiye. His research focuses on the
Internet of Things (IoT), Age of Information (AoI), goal-oriented
communications, reinforcement learning, and digital twins for smart
environments. He has contributed to the design of age-aware
communication protocols, energy-efficient IoT architectures, and machine
learning–driven HVAC control systems, with applications in smart
cities, smart grids, and sustainable buildings.
In addition to his
academic role, he is Chief Technology Officer at FRESHDATA Technologies,
where he develops age-sensitive IoT fault detection systems for
electricity distribution networks. He also serves as Principal
Investigator and Senior IoT Engineer at JeoIT Ltd., leading end-to-end
IoT projects on environmental monitoring, LoRa-based communication
systems, and network optimization for industrial and urban applications.
Furthermore, he is a Senior Researcher at SUIT, where he applies IoT
and machine learning methodologies for smart HVAC systems and
sustainable urbanization platforms.
His professional expertise spans
IoT protocol design (MQTT, LoRaWAN, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, TCP/UDP), embedded
systems, wireless sensor networks, reinforcement learning, and
delay/disruption-tolerant networking. He has authored numerous journal
and conference papers in IEEE and other venues, co-authored a Cambridge
University Press book chapter on Age of Information, and actively serves
as a reviewer for IEEE/ACM journals and conferences. His broader
interests include semantic communications, experimental IoT testbeds,
and energy-constrained network optimization.
