Özet:The aim of the present study is to examine the influence of self-reported and perceived partners’ use of maintenance behaviors (openness, sharing tasks, positivity), relational equity, felt and expressed appreciation on marital satisfaction. For this purpose, two structural models were tested. In the first model, felt appreciation and relational equity were investigated as mediators of the relationships between self-reported use of maintenance behaviors and marital satisfaction. In the second model, relational equity and expressed appreciation were investigated as mediators of the relationships between perceived partners’ use of maintenance behaviors and marital satisfaction. The sample of the study consisted of 602 married individuals. Relationship Maintenance Behaviors Measurement, Relational Equity Scale, Appreciation in Relationships Scale, Relationship Assessment Scale, and Demographic Information Form were used to gather data. Each model was tested through the use of Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). SEM results of the first model revealed that the indirect associations between self-reported use of maintenance behaviors and marital satisfaction were provided by the mediator roles of (1) felt appreciation, and (2) felt appreciation and relational equity. On the other hand, SEM results of the second model indicated that the indirect associations between perceived partners’ use of maintenance behaviors and marital satisfaction were provided by the mediator roles of (1) relational equity, (2) expressed appreciation, and (3) relational equity and expressed appreciation. Overall, the results supported the hypothesized models and findings were discussed in light of the relevant literature. Implications for theory, research and practice, and recommendations for further studies were presented.
