Özet:

The cultural heritage values in cities represent great opportunities for the tourism development. The conservation of the authentic character and identity of cultural heritage values and use of them without any degradation are important when considering the needs of present generation and the rights of future generations. From the global point of view, the tourism industry is seen as a fundamental component of economic development and continuously presents positive impact on the economy, environment and society. However, there is no guarantee for the continuation of tourism sector in any locality due to the threat of loss of authenticity and identity, branding efforts, mass tourism activities and unsustainability factors. When considering the cultural heritage values are the primary resources in the tourist-historic cities for tourism industry and their vulnerable and fragile characteristics, the overutilization of these resources makes the negative impacts of the tourism sector prominent issue. Developing sustainable tourism management plans for the tourist-historic cities is vital to protect the cultural heritage values from the threats and negative effects. In this study, the sustainability of the cultural heritage tourism development and management and the future of the heritage tourism sector in the city of Amasya are analyzed by referencing its past experiences, examining the present realities of the city and interpreting the theories in the literature.
