Özet:The beauty of the world we live in is highlighted by a number of unique structures made by the hands of mankind. These valuable assets need to be protected and kept ‘alive’ for the benefit of the upcoming generations. As an important contribution of the Ottoman era to the world’s architectural heritage, Yashar Pasha Mosque in Kosovo is one of these unique structures in need of protection and conservation. The subject of this study is to analyze the current structural system of the building and to suggest strengthening interventions for this 180 years-old mosque which encounters severe safety and stability problems as of today. Computer aided finite element analyses were performed through SAP 2000 software and were used to assess the current status of the mosque and to determine the structural problems of the building. The parameters required for these analyses such as material characteristics are obtained from the documents prepared by A Proje for Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) and are introduced to the software. These analyses have been conducted under self-weight of the mosque and seismic loadings and in accordance with these analyses, the strengthening interventions are proposed. Additionally, beside the proposal of the author, two different strengthening methods that are proposed for the mosque by A Proje and Predrag Gavrilovic are also taken into consideration in the study. These three intervention proposals are investigated in order to decide the most appropriate method with respect to contemporary criteria. Lastly, the performance and effectiveness of these strengthening methods are evaluated and the results are discussed.
