Özet:Berm type rubble mound breakwaters are preferred by engineers due to their relative advantages in economy and implementation compared to conventional rubble mound breakwaters. In this study, a previously constructed hardly reshaping berm breakwater protecting a filling area used as an airport between Ordu and Giresun cities in the Black Sea Region is compared to several alternative reshaping (partly or fully) models under the same stability and serviceability conditions by physical model experiments. In the first part of the study, results of physical model experiments are discussed in terms of damage parameter and recession, which are found to be in agreement with the findings given in the literature. In the second part, serviceability conditions of the selected models are investigated by analysing wave overtopping discharges and comparing overtopping results with available design formulations. In the final part of the study, the cumulative damage development on the alternative cross-sections is studied. Moreover, the relation between the damage and wave overtopping is examined under the cumulative damage condition of models. According to cumulative damage analysis, cross-sections reach equilibrium approximately at the end of 8000 waves. According to the results when the damage increases on the structure, overtopping discharges do not change significantly. Results of this study show that Ordu-Giresun hardly reshaping berm breakwater might be designed as a reshaping berm breakwater with the same stability and serviceability conditions.
