Özet:The industrial revolution in the 19th century affected the world in social, economic, and socio-cultural aspects, also influencing the physical environment by altering the types of structures since the production turned from conventional type into industrial. The industrial buildings were utilized actively for many years; however, they were mostly abandoned due to various reasons. These sites became derelict areas within the significant locations of the cities, which were settled far from the city centers in advance. The former industrial buildings are under threat of being disappeared as a result of nonuse and dilapidation. This thesis focuses on Alsancak Liman Arkası district, the first industrial zone of İzmir including the earliest factories of the Ottoman period after those in İstanbul. The site contains the industrial, cultural and natural heritage from the 19th and the 20th centuries with various functions. Liman Arkası lost its original function in time thus the site turned into urban wasteland and industrial heritage is in danger of disappearance. The conservation of industrial heritage is the spotlight for this study before they vanish. This thesis aims to understand the significance of Liman Arkası district and develop particular conservation principles to conserve the site with all of its characteristics.
