Özet:This thesis is primarily concerned with the differences and similarities between anyway and her/neyse. Moreover, this thesis aims to compare these two seemingly synonym words, anyway and her/neyse, in terms of their frequency, position, specific functions and collocations in fiction works in three different corpora; TNC, BNC and COCA. Both anyway and her/neyse have discourse marker uses and adverbial uses. Some of the functions defined are common for both of the markers while some of them are distinctive functions for each word. There are also some differences between anyway and her/neyse in terms of their frequency, positions and collocations. Anyway is more likely to occur in the final position while her/neyse mostly occurs in the initial position. In addition, depending on the words they are commonly used with, the core meaning of anyway and her/neyse might change.
