Özet:

Accurate prediction of consolidation settlement of soft clay and silt deposits has always been a topic of interest for geotechnical engineers. The objective of this study is to investigate the use of a few different computational tools for the realistic prediction of consolidation settlement in soft ground. During the literature review phase of this study, one well-documented case history of embankment constructed on soft ground with prefabricated vertical drains has been selected for further analyses. For the selected case history, detailed subsoil profiles, measured settlements and pore water pressures at certain depths with time were collected. Settlement of soft ground was calculated by using different mehtods such as finite element method (using PLAXIS software) and analytical method based on Terzaghi consolidation theory (using SETTLE3D software). The results were compared with the measured values of settlements with time in the field.
