Özet

Natural selection is one of the main evolutionary forces that influence genetic diversity. In molecular evolution, central focus revolves around distinguishing between natural selection and neutrality and exploring the dynamics of selection including its timing, intensity and mode. The objective of this chapter is to offer a comprehensive survey of methodologies employed in analyzing selection patterns. This includes presenting a clear terminology for various selection modes, examining key approaches for detecting selection and assessing its strength and timing through molecular imprints. Furthermore, the chapter explores emerging methodologies that utilize time-series genetic data obtained from ancient DNA. The chapter will conclude by outlining future directions aimed at refining detection methods by integrating insights from diverse disciplines.
