Abstract

The paper argues that institutions, particularly those that are region-specific, play a prominent role in the different pathways to entrepreneurship. Empirical evidence based on primary data on four different regions in Türkiye and a scale measuring the dimensions of institutions developed for this study allow for understanding the role of institutions in defining different entrepreneurial profiles. The findings reveal the critical role of normative and culture-cognitive institutions, while also showing that the impact of government rules and measures to promote entrepreneurship may not be positive in all regions, and may even act as obstacles to innovative entrepreneurship.
