Özet
A novel approach towards gasification of wet biomass was studied in which biomass residues and by-products are converted to hydrogen and synthetic gas using supercritical water (SCW). This method is applicable to any biomass feedstock including heterogeneous biomass sources of second generation such as agricultural wastes, forest slush, glycerin by-products, and sludge from water purification containing significant levels of moisture. This method used water as both a solvent and a reactant. The biomass gasification process carried out in SCW improved significantly the energy balance by eliminating the need for drying of biomass. In the case when biomass was used as a source of H2, there was a net reduction in total CO2 amount in the atmosphere. Thus, SCWG could act as a sink of GHG.
