Özet

The global shift in industrial production paradigms has led to significant transformations in the spatial organization of industries, making their evolving spatial dynamics a critical area of study. This study examines the socio-spatial dialectics between urban and peri-urban industrial areas in Türkiye. The main pursuit of the study is to investigate whether the complex relationship between these two formations is essentially antagonistic or symbiotic. In this framework, the study employs a multi-faceted approach, beginning with morphological analyses across six diverse cities in Türkiye to demonstrate this duality of urban and peri-urban industries. This is complemented by a case study of Konya, which integrates historical and spatial analysis with GIS-based mapping for detailed morphological insights. Then, 15 in-depth interviews with firm officials and owners from both types of industries are made to reveal the underlying factors of location choice in the context of the city. The study aims to make a unique contribution by revealing the complex relational dynamics of urban and peri-urban industries beyond a simple state of coexistence, thus enabling the rethinking of existing theoretical frameworks regarding this industrial duality.
