Abstract

Grooved heat pipes are highly efficient thermal management devices widely used in various industrial applications. Historically, research efforts have focused on conventional groove geometries, such as rectangular, trapezoidal, star-shaped, and omega profiles, mainly due to their ease of fabrication and cost-effectiveness. Additionally, the complex modeling requirements associated with grooved heat pipes, including channel flow and phase-change heat transfer (i.e., evaporation and condensation), have posed significant challenges for the numerical analysis of more innovative designs. As a result, the literature on the impact of unconventional groove geometries remains limited. In this study, a methodological framework developed with the help of using commercial CFD software to evaluate the performance of grooved heat pipes is introduced and its application to assess various groove shapes is demonstrated.
