Software development organizations need dynamic capabilities to adapt to the changing development and business contexts. This paper presents a process modeling approach that incorporates the context into process descriptions, enabling process owners to "design their processes for change" and switch processes during execution. The model adapts the sense-and-respond approach for organizations to software processes and uses the role-based modeling in process descriptions. The processes are represented using the Strategy Design Pattern. The model provides "know-why" information to support process owners in selecting process descriptions applicable to the project. The model is illustrated for the "requirements analysis" process of the software development life cycle. © 2010 ACM.
