Abstract

This paper proposes a mathematical system model and a related novel system calibration method for acoustic based shooter detection system with multi microphone array which utilizes muzzle blast and shockwave due to bullet physics. System calibration method estimates system parameters namely, sound speed, bullet speed, and microphone array position from a single shot to improve shooter localization accuracy. In this paper the overall system architecture and system implementation of acoustic sensor node for distributed wireless acoustic shooter localization system are also presented.
