Özet

During the negotiations of the Treaty of Rome, it was foreseen that the probability of individuals losing their social security rights could be a serious obstacle before the exercise of free movement rights. Bearing this in mind, the protection of social security rights was evaluated in view the prohibition of discrimination on the grounds of nationality, and social security coordination rules came into force, as the first substantial regulation of the European Union. The purpose of this study is to assess statutory social security regulations applied in Turkey inside of the European Union non-discrimination principle on the grounds of nationality. The practices that generate differences on the grounds of nationality are pointed out, and it is concluded that alternative scenarios need to be considered soon.
