Özet

Estimation of earthquake damage is performed via empirical damage probability matrices. The degree of damage is quantified in terms of the damage ratio, which is defined as the ratio of cost of repairing the earthquake damage to the replacement cost of the building. Observational data bases are enriched and improved with the damage distribution statistics of recent earthquakes that occurred in Turkey belonging to approximately 120 000 buildings. The expected mean damage ratios are computed for reinforced concrete and masonry buildings constructed in different seismic zones of Turkey and are presented.
