Abstract

In this paper a 1 kW series-series compensated, two transmitter four receiver common DC bus parallel connected inductive power transfer system is introduced. The aim is to obtain a modular system with increased reliability and fault tolerance. The system is designed to replace slip rings and brushless exciters of field excited synchronous machines, which require regular maintenance. A generalized critical coupling formula that avoids bifurcation is presented. The system can be easily mounted around a rigid shaft with modular structure and eddy-loss on the shaft is minimized with the novel coil geometry. Finally, with an experimental setup the design is presented.
