Özet

Investigation of drought that has heavy sociological and economical costs to countries is very important to alleviate its adverse impacts and to take the necessary precautions. Konya Closed Basin, which has critical role in terms of agricultural yield for our country, is one of the regions where the impact of the drought is felt the most due to its semi-arid climate. For this reason, in this study, severity, duration, and impact area of drought is analyzed over Konya Closed Basin between 1998 and 2015. In these analyses, precipitation maps derived using Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) Multi-Satellite Precipitation Analysis ( TMPA) 3B42 v7 satellite-based raw precipitation product provided by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) are used. Results show seven long dry periods occurred during the past 18 years, while the December 2006 - October 2007 period had the most severe drought in terms of severity and impact area. The temporal propagation of drought results are consistent with the results of drought studies that have used station-based precipitation data. This study also presents the high potential of remote sensing-based precipitation datasets in drought analyses, particularly in drought impact area calculations.
