Özet
This final chapter serves as a tribute to women whose femininities were shaped not through dress, fashion or demeanour but by the sheer burden of labour, exuding heaviness on their heads and shoulders. Photography, in all its multitudinous possibilities, enabled the recording of many everyday scenes of people toiling at the margins. The six images in this chapter honour women who contributed their punishing and toilsome labour towards the building of a colonial economy. This concluding note also summarises the book's main themes, states our main findings and underscores our contribution to studies on decoloniality and the reclamation of women's hidden history through the visual interrogation of femininities in the Malay world.
