ABSTRACT

Solar gains, air and heat exchange, internal gains and auxiliary energy sources are key aspects when dealing with building and urban energy balances. This work tackles the first issue, by using a simple model based in a work made in 1960 to calculate solar radiation components in clear days: direct and diffuse. The main goal is to clearify the differences between the calculations of this early model and the real measurements of the two components of solar irradiation to use in the urban context. The methodology is simple and the results give some rough conclusions about the differences in the measured and calculated values to be use for energy balance calculations. This work is a preliminary study of the adjustement of the method of calculations used in the software Heliodon 2. The model was tested using 10 years data of solar radiation from USA.
