Abstract

This article intends to analyze the western impact on China and

Ottoman Empire and its implications. It starts with a historical overview

on the contacts of the Western powers with China and Ottoman

Empire, and then focuses on the worse impact of the unequal treaties

imposed to the two nations, through which to try to find out what lay

behind the unsuccessful attempts of their Westernization efforts.
