Abstract

This study presents the development of a cost-effective hemispherical resonator gyroscope (HRG) that uses metallic shell instead of traditional quartz resonators. Although quartz HRGs deliver strategic-grade performance, their intricate and expensive fabrication processes limit their adoption in emerging, cost-sensitive platforms. By contrast, a well-engineered metallic HRG can approach navigation-grade performance while retaining all the manufacturability and cost advantages of conventional machining.
