Abstract

Photothermal therapy (PTT) is a promising, minimally invasive cancer treatment method that relies on the unique properties of photothermal agents (PTAs), such as plasmonic particles or quantum nanodots. The core principle of PTT is to leverage the ability of PTAs to convert incident light to heat for localized heating, ultimately leading to destruction of malignant tissue. In this study, we aim to increase the absorption efficiency of gold nanospheres with the addition of silica nanorods. Random particle clouds comprised of monodisperse gold nanospheres and silica nanorods are generated and the orientation-averaged absorption efficiency of the random particle cloud is calculated using discrete dipole approximation (DDA). It is shown that the addition of nanorods can enhance the absorption efficiency up to 11.45% for the configurations investigated.
