Studies on the burning of levitated aluminum particles: Effects of CO2 and pressure

Özet
Aluminum particles are isolated and laser ignited in an electrodynamic chamber, inserted into a high pressure vessel. In the present work, experiments are conducted in air and CO2 at room temperature. Heat-up to the ignition point of the particles is obtained with a CO2 laser. The burning of individual particles is observed with high a speed cine camera. Experiments show that aluminum particles burn in the gas phase with a large envelope flame both in air and in CO2. The flame becomes more intense when pressure is increased.
