Özet

Web-based software are rapidly changing the established software and hardware structures given the fact that the resource allocation for computation can be significantly different compared to the personal computer-oriented use. In this paper, the development of a web-based software for the investigation of the seismic behavior of concrete gravity dams is presented. The software is planned for both the prediction of seismic failure on such systems and for the rapid assessment of possible effects regarding the reservoir outflow and inundation predictions. The underlying engine for the prediction of seismic behavior is a combined Applied Element and Finite Element model which can be used for the solution of complex numerical simulations in both the remote or native machines. The graphical user interface for using this engine is prepared in HTML, JavaScript and CSS languages. The structure and content of the GUI are controlled with HTML while the style and formatting are conducted in CSS. Interaction in the GUI is handled through the JavaScript language. The GUI is set up to provide a simple, stable and easy interaction with the numerical problem at hand. The meshing for the solid elements and reservoir elements are handled within the software using ray-tracing algorithms among other tools for controlling the geometry of the discretized numerical system. The structure of the code is presented in this work with some sample problems and benchmark cases. Some examples of the use of the GUI for modeling of complicated dam geometry and reservoir systems are shown. The ongoing work for the planned output options is presented. In summary, with this work, a relatively easy to use software that can put discrete element solutions as a tool in the engineer’s arsenal is presented.
