The UTAK 2026 (7th National Design Research Conference) Proceedings Book compiles the outcomes of the conference organized by the METU Department of Industrial Design between September 9-11, 2026, centered around the main theme of "Design and Transformation". The book opens up current issues in the design discipline to debate from theoretical, critical, and practice-based perspectives; it approaches design not merely as a passive tool adapting to change, but as an active research and production practice that personally shapes transformation in the face of the integration of artificial intelligence into processes, ecological vulnerabilities, and social crises. The 60 paper proposals submitted to the conference underwent a double-blind peer review process involving 65 academics from Turkey and abroad, and 39 full-text papers that successfully completed the required revisions were entitled to be published in the book. These papers are gathered under 10 different thematic sessions such as form and perception in design, the evolution of the design studio, design ontology, methodological transformation in the age of AI, sustainability, experience design, well-being-oriented design, and strategic transformations. Furthermore, the "Tevfik Balcıoğlu Best Paper Award," given for the first time in the conference's history, was awarded to Burak Taşdizen for his work titled "Keeping Alive in Place: A More-Than-Human Design History" following a multi-stage jury evaluation. In addition to the papers, the contents of 7 different workshops held on topics such as artificial intelligence, sustainable toy design, and design pedagogy, along with the closing panel titled "Transformation of the Profession: Chamberization," are also included in the book as conference documentation.
