Abstract

Parents’ expectations from their children vary across different societies due to different socio-

cultural norms, and values, as well as within societies by the socio-economic status (SES) and

gender of parents. Although studies have frequently examined the parenting goals (PGs)

regarding these variables, the literature has often been limited to studies conducted in the

Western societies. Within the scope of this study, it is aimed to examine the effects of both SES

and gender of parents on their PGs in Turkey, and to delineate parents’ long-term expectations

from their children by the age of 25
