In this study, we consider two different approaches for assortment planning and shelf space allocation for a retailer. The first approach is a joint one where both problems are solved in a single iteration. The second approach, widely studied in the literature, considers two problems successively. The results are tested using real data with respect to several performance measures. The proposed methods are also compared with the results of a commercial package widely used in practice
