Recent Earthquakes have shown that, to reduce the life and property loss, it is necessary to have good building codes and to have the provisions of these codes enforced. This paper discusses the issues related to enforcement of Building Codes and, using Canadian experience, provides a road map for an effective system to enforce the provisions of the Building Codes.
