Abstract

This study investigated gifted students’ group creativity in modeling competencies when they have engaged in an engineering-based model eliciting activity. Using a qualitative case study design, six gifted students aged 10–11 participated in an after-school enrichment program over five weeks. Working in two groups, the students engaged in iterative design processes supported by multiple data sources, including video recordings, worksheets, field notes, and focus group interviews. The data were analyzed based on group creativity components: fluency, flexibility, originality, elaboration, and usefulness. Data analysis revealed that gifted students demonstrated high levels of creativity and enhanced at the end of the second iteration of the design process. The findings suggest that engineering-based model eliciting activities can serve as valuable enrichment tools to foster creativity among gifted students. Furthermore, the study introduces a framework that may guide educators and researchers in assessing creativity components in similar classroom contexts.
