    • The objective of this course is to introduce students to the wide variety of ecosystems existing in the oceans, their location, structure and functioning, as well as sensitivity to environmental influences, such as circulation dynamics and climate change.

      • Learn about different ecosystem components and their interactions
      • Realize the importance of physical forcings on ecosystem functioning
      • Learn effective way of reading scientific articles
      • Improve presentation skills


      There is no textbook for this course. Instead students are required to read a total of 50 scientific articles over the that will be assigned and provided by the instructor. There will be:

      • Lecture
      • Presentations: students are required to read papers and summarize them in presentations to the rest of the class. 
      • Discussion of the contents of each presentations

      The students performance will be assessed from their individual presentations, their ability to answer questions regarding each classes topic and their participation in the discussions.
