This course surveys central concepts of critical pedagogy to provide English language teacher candidates with an in-depth understanding of the political, economic, social and cultural factors informing schooling.
The course aims to help teacher candidates understand
the classroom reality from a larger political-economic and socio-cultural
perspective. With their enlarged educational perspective, students who take
this course will be able to make informed decisions about the problems they
face in their schooling context. The insight they gain in the course will help
them build egalitarian, dialogic and caring relationships with their students.
This course will also equip students with the notions of democratic citizenship
and advocacy at educational institutions.
