This course surveys major theories and concepts of
critical pedagogy and builds a bridge between the central tenets of critical
pedagogy and English language teaching. This course encourages graduate
students to explore the political, economic, social and cultural dimensions of education
in general and English language education in particular. This course aims to develop
critical consciousness as to the notions of democratic schooling practices and
critical citizenship as well as the political-economical dimensions of English
language education including hegemony of English, expanding world of English
Language Teaching industry and linguistic human rights.
