This course is designed to examine Ottoman women
via chosen samples from different social classes, ethnic and religious groups
of the Ottoman society in the period between the 1500s and 1922. It seeks to
shed light on the process of Ottoman women’s change and challenges to survive
in the life conditions, politics, as well as the problems that the Ottoman
Empire experienced in the mentioned periods. The course also seeks to provide
information on the experiences of Ottoman women after the Ottoman Sultanate was
abolished in 1922 and a new era started for Ottoman women with new identities
and experiences.
