Being the capital city for two empires; East
Roman and Ottoman, Constantinople or Istanbul rightly deserves the attention
oriented towards her. Through her ages, a mixture of cultures including Jewish,
Armenian, Greek and Turkish, has shaped its spatial form and gave life to her
streets. This mixture has created a civilization that fascinated everyone
visiting the city. This course will analyse not only the urban development of
the city but also explore the cultural and social aspects of everyday life of Istanbul
in the early modern period
