The main goal of this course is enabling
students to develop a comprehensive understanding about how human memory system
develops within social context, and the implications of memory system in
different settings or states, such as after experiencing a trauma, or during
eyewitness testimony, etc.
I expect students to develop an understanding about structural, functional and theoretical bases of memory system, and to reflect what they learn in this course upon constructing a study design and proposal, which they may consider to conduct in the future. I am looking forward to taking this journey with you and participate in your learning experience.
In this course, we
will be covering various topics on memory development across life span, with a
special emphasis on infancy and childhood. In addition to some of the main
theories on memory development, autobiographical memory development will be
extensively discussed in class. Students from other graduate programs are also welcome
to take this course.
Students taking
this course are expected to:
a)
Read
all assigned articles weekly, and write a comprehensive reaction paper about
the readings every three weeks- 4 reaction papers in total.
b)
Participate
in class discussions.
c)
Lead
three in-class discussions about the assigned readings.
d)
Write
a study proposal about a topic of interest regarding memory development, and apply
to get ethical permission from the Ethical Review Board (Uygulamali Etik
Kurulu) at METU.
