This course is
designed for students who are new to the study of higher education administration
to provide an overview of the field, its challenges, and opportunities. The
focus is primarily on the components of higher education governance and
administration to be able to analyse Turkish higher education institutions and
system. While the course starts with the
definition and functions of higher education, it then introduces some of the
historical background of higher education both in the world and in Turkey. The
course will include the major components of higher education administration such
as leadership and shared governance, culture of academy, faculty members,
student affairs, teaching and research, and some current issues (accreditation,
university ranking and classifications etc.) in higher education system.
