    Brief Course Description


    The aim of this course is to describe fourth year Civil Engineering students: i) the need for NDT examination in comparison to conventional testing methods, ii) the basics of the most commonly used NDT methods used for concrete structures.  At the end of this course the students will be able to specify a nondestructive test to meet a need, conduct the test and analyze and explain the resulting data.


     


    Even though there are no official prerequisites, the students should take a basic level “materials of construction” course and should know the basic properties of concrete.


     


    Catalog Course Description


    General description of commonly used NDT methods. NDT to estimate strength and other properties of concrete.  Condition assesment of reinforced concrete structures. Test techniques and working principles of surface hardness; penetration resistance; stress wave propagation methods; magnetic and electrical testing.  Applications of infrared thermography and radar techniques.
