Özet

The wall panel at the main entrance of the Middle East Technical University Faculty of Architecture was designed and produced by Gencay Kasap & ccedil;& imath; in 1968 specifically for this location. However, the story of the panel's creation related to the construction of the wall. Although the artists and the dates of their production differ, it is clear that the panel and building are the products of a common perception and a common way of seeing specific to the period. As a matter of fact, with their changing meanings over time, the infinite dots that constitute the wall panel have become one of the focal points of the building in a short time and have become an inseparable part of the built environment and its users. As a result of the decision taken by the administrators of that period during the assembly of the wall panel, a part of it was not placed, and this situation persisted even after the original reason for leaving it incomplete was no longer relevant. Furthermore, the panel has been subjected to both intentional and unintentional damage with increasing interest over the years. In 2016, the Faculty Management decided to initiate conservation efforts. Throughout the process, the significance of individual and collective memory, arising from the unique relationship between the artefact and its users, and the value of the coexistence of the ceramic and architectural artefacts have been taken into consideration. This perspective has guided all efforts to understand, document, protect and monitor the wall panel during the conservation and re-completion process.
