Özet

Amino acids play a key role in understanding the alterations in cellular metabolism pathways associated with cancer metabolism. Tryptophan, an essential amino acid, is an important cancer nutrient whose presence can vary significantly in breast and colon cancerous cells compared to healthy ones. Thus, the quantifiable detection of tryptophan can offer the possibility of early cancer diagnosis. Detection methods based in the terahertz region of the electromagnetic spectrum offer new possibilities for detection arising mainly from the exhibited strong resonances due to its molecular structure and orientation. The interaction of tryptophan with the surrounding medium, especially water, is key to understanding the limits of terahertz detection methods, especially those that utilize broadband radiation. The hydrophobic nature of tryptophan points to possibility of detecting its presence in complex biological media. These properties are studied and assessed with respect to the possibility of utilizing these methods for diagnostic studies.
