Project Abstract

Aircraft require different aerodynamic characteristics during various flight phases such as takeoff, climb, cruise, maneuvering, and landing. When conventional fixed-geometry wings are designed to provide optimal performance across all these flight conditions, several engineering trade-offs inevitably arise. In particular, a balance must be established among parameters such as lift, drag, stability, and structural strength. Consequently, fixed wing geometries may not achieve maximum aerodynamic efficiency throughout the entire flight envelope.

To mitigate these limitations, significant research has been conducted in recent years on morphing wing technologies. Morphing wings are adaptive systems that allow controlled modification of wing geometry during flight. Through these systems, the aerodynamic characteristics of the wing can be optimized according to the prevailing flight conditions. The morphing wing concept can be implemented through various approaches, including camber variation, twist variation, wingspan variation, and elastic surface deformation.
