Borusan EnBW Enerji is a leading renewable energy company in Türkiye, jointly owned by Borusan Holding and EnBW AG. The company operates a diverse portfolio of wind, hydro, and solar power plants, contributing significantly to the country's renewable energy capacity. The EBRD provides up to a USD 60.0 million senior loan to Borusan EnBW Enerji to finance wind capacity extension projects with a total capacity of c. 116.3 MW and support its continued growth. The transaction aligns with the EBRD's strategic objectives of promoting sustainable economic development and supporting the transition to a low-carbon economy. As part of this project, the EBRD and Borusan EnBW Enerji will collaborate on gender equality addressing gender disparities within the company and promoting equal opportunities for women in the renewable energy sector. The Project will aim to strengthen a gender-balanced talent pool in the male-dominated energy sector to improve women’s access to employment opportunities in the sector. Borusan EnBW Enerji will achieve this by developing and implementing a targeted outreach programme in partnership with local education institutions, civil society organizations and local partners in its operation locations. As young women remain underrepresented in the country’s labour market1, the Project will also contribute women’s labour force participation in Turkiye. By implementing these measures, the EBRD and Borusan EnBW Enerji aim to create a more inclusive and equitable workplace, contributing to the overall advancement of a diverse workforce for Türkiye's renewable energy sector. Hence, the Project directly addresses the objectives of EBRD’s Equality of Opportunity Strategy (2021-2025) and the Strategy for the Promotion of Gender Equality (2021-2025) by promoting women’s access to equal employment opportunities in renewable energy industry. A qualified team of consultants will be recruited to design and implement the planned assignment. The objective of this assignment is to design and implement a targeted outreach programme to attract young women in the male-dominated energy sector. This will be achieved through establishing partnerships with local education institutions and key stakeholders in Borusan EnBW Enerji’s operation locations (mainly Sivas and Tekirdag) and relevant civil society organizations. The targeted group of young females include (i) young women already in higher education (i.e. universities, vocational high schools, technical and vocational schools) studying in STEM related areas, and (ii) female students at the age of primary and middle school as potential students in STEM areas, their families and school management.
