Proje Özeti

Cloud and Networking Infrastructure, with the emergence of new trends like High-Performance Computing (HPC), are pivotal in driving Europe's key policy objectives like the Green Deal and digital transformation. The project, Advanced Cloud and High-performance computing Education for a Valiant Europe (ACHIEVE) is designed to enhance the quality of EU higher education in the domain of IT infrastructures and in particular HPC which is used to solve several complex questions in computational and data-intensive sciences. It offers a comprehensive approach, covering aspects from cloud computing, network architecture, to the advanced skills on HPC systems and their applications in answering complex questions like the simulation and modelling of physical phenomena (such as climate change, energy production, drug design, global security, and materials design), the analysis of large data sets (such as those in genome sequencing, astronomical observation, and cybersecurity), and the intricate design of engineered products, such as airplanes.

ACHIEVE aims to implement a double-degree master's program (ISCED Level 7, 120 ECTS) focusing on Cloud and Networking Infrastructure with specializations that align with the strategic development of advanced, green, and efficient HPC systems. Additionally, it includes a minor in Innovation and Entrepreneurship. This program will be collaboratively designed and delivered by eight higher education institutions from six different countries, in partnership with major industry associations and companies specializing in cloud computing and HPC, along with an innovative SME for educational program delivery, a non-profit association, and EIT Digital, a leader in advanced digital skills education in Europe.

ACHIEVE will also develop a set of self-standing online modules on the fields of Cloud and Networking infrastructure and High-Performance Computing. The self-standing online modules that will be developed are designed to provide flexible, in-depth learning opportunities in key areas of High-Performance Computing (HPC) and Cloud Computing. These modules will cater to diverse learning needs, enabling both students and professionals to enhance their knowledge and skills at their own pace, while also offering practical insights and applications relevant to current industry standards and future technological advancements.

The program emphasizes fostering strong academia-business interactions, promoting entrepreneurial spirit, inclusiveness, and contributing to the growth of the EIT Digital ecosystem, a major digital hub in Europe. Beyond the specialized master's program, ACHIEVE will develop standalone learning modules on Cloud and HPC topics. These modules, aligned with lifelong learning and micro-credentials frameworks, will be beneficial for on-the-job training, lateral entry employees, and raising awareness about the significance of Cloud and HPC in the digital era. The modules will lead to certifications in advanced digital skills from participating educational institutions and EIT Digital. Finally, in line with the so-called Education for Innovation model, and thanks to enormous experience of EIT Digital also in the field of Innovation, the ACHIEVE Master programme will push for more entrepreneurship culture, by offering students not only a Minor in Innovation and Entrepreneurship, but also some dedicated services to create, launch test and support start-ups.

Aligned with the Digital Compass and New European Innovation Agenda, ACHIEVE’s curriculum will train over 150 participants across ten Member States, at MSc levels. It aims to bridge the gap in advanced digital skills in Europe, enhancing competitiveness in crucial digital technology domains like Cloud Computing and HPC.

The added value of this proposal includes:

1.     Updating academic curricula on cutting-edge topics like Cloud Computing, Networking Infrastructure, and HPC,

2.     Strengthening connections with industry stakeholders to bridge the gap between labour market demands and higher education initiatives

3. Increasing public awareness and changing perceptions about the importance and potential of Cloud and HPC technologies
