Proje Özeti
The primary objective of the project is to analyze the economic well-being of women aged 18–75 in these provinces, with a particular focus on three dimensions: (1) employment opportunities and participation in the labor market, (2) access to and control over property rights, and (3) access to and control over sources of income.
Within the scope of the project, five provinces in three of the NUTS Level-2 regions affected by the February 6, 2023 earthquakes will be the focus of the study: TR63 (Hatay and Kahramanmaraş), TRB1 (Malatya), and TRC1 (Gaziantep and Adıyaman).
Given the need for a multidisciplinary approach, our project team includes researchers from sociology as well as psychology, social work, law, and economics, with expertise in gender and/or disasters. Their accumulated knowledge and experience in the fields of gender and disaster research have the potential to contribute to the project in several important ways.
The researcher specializing in disaster and trauma psychology has expertise in working with vulnerable groups in disaster contexts, particularly women. Her/his knowledge and experience in the areas of disasters and gender will contribute to protecting the psychological well-being of both women participants and researchers during a period in which psychological well-being following the earthquake is of particular importance. This expertise will be especially valuable given the sensitivity of the issues addressed in the study. The researcher will also contribute to the development of questions concerning the psychological dimensions of economic well-being in the survey instruments, the analysis of the collected data based on the psychological literature, and the development of recommendations accordingly.
The researcher specializing in law is also actively engaged in research on women's economic rights. Within this framework, she/he will contribute to assessing women's access to property and income rights from a human rights perspective.
The researcher specializing in social work and gender studies will actively participate in the focus group discussions with service providers, including public institutions and civil society organizations. Following the collection and analysis of sequential quantitative and qualitative data, the researcher will contribute to the development and dissemination of a proposed model aimed at supporting women's economic well-being and empowerment in the earthquake-affected region. This model will be informed by the findings from the focus group discussions and will focus on strategies for strengthening women's economic well-being and empowerment.
The researcher from the field of economics specializes in economics and public finance from a gender perspective. She/he will evaluate the effectiveness of public services in the region through the analysis of quantitative and qualitative data and will contribute to the development of policy recommendations based on the findings.
