Özet:

Internet of things (IoT) introduced some challenges as well as many opportunities for designers. Enhanced capabilities of the things transformed them from being passive assistants of humans to active agents that can collect and act on data. On the one hand, the emergence of new and more capable ‘things’ constitutes challenges for designers. Most of the studies are technology-driven, and the unprecedented experiences that designers cannot envision might result in disappointing experiences for users. On the other hand, the availability of data that is collected and used by the things provided a new source of information that designers might benefit in the early design process. The studies on the use of data collected from the things to develop new agents by designers are still emerging. This study aims at contributing to the design corpus by proposing a method for guiding designers in their design for the IoT process. This method proposes using sensor data collected from the connected things to create a design fiction prototype—an object persona from a thing-centred point of view. The method was developed through three workshops with designers. As a result of the iterative workshops, sensor data supported object persona creation was proposed for designers as an ideation method in the design for the IoT process. The effectiveness of the method was then evaluated with experts. The method was found to be effective in the ideation process in design for IoT as it helps designers envisioning potential interactions of agents with users, with other agents, and with the environment
