Abstract:ABSTRACT DEVELOPMENT AND APPLICATION OF CONTROL CHARTS FOR AN AIRCRAFT WING TIP PART PRODUCTION PROCESS Şahinsev, Gülay M.S., Department of Industrial Engineering Supervisor: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gülser Koksal October 2002, 87 pages The production environment in the industry is rapidly changing from mass production to short run and make-to-order production where classical control charts such as Shewhart charts can no longer be applicable to every situation. In this thesis, a short run production environment, an aerospace industry is taken into consideration and appropriate control charts are developed and applied to a wing-tip part production process. There are 12 key characteristics on the part which are univariately and multivariately analyzed. CUSUM control charts are developed for the characteristics which are analyzed univariately, and multivariate Q charts are developed for the characteristics which are analyzed multivariately. For the multivariate Q chart, two different sample covariance-matrices are used and their performances are compared. Results are discussed. Keywords: Statistical process control, control chart, CUSUM control chart, Q chart, multivariate control chart, aerospace industry, aircraft production. m
