Abstract:

The focus of this study is the regional regime established by the Mediterranean states for the protection of the marine environment. As a case study on the current practice of states related to environmental protection, the character of the environmental issue in international relations, the definition of the problem in the Mediterranean Region, the identification of convergent and divergent state interests, and the structure and attributes of the regional regime are analysed. The problem of state compliance is dealt with along with the effects of other institutions of dealing with the issue of marine pollution on the development of the rules of the MAP. The compliance of coastal states with the regime are explored as indicators of regime effectiveness, growth and durability.
